You have to pass through two stages (i) written test and (ii) interview. At this young age, you will get a clear focus for your career progress. This will also groom you for other National level competitive exams like IAS, CAT, GRE etc. It is very rare that a student who gets the NTSE scholarship is not able to clear other exams. later. You should definitely attempt this exam, just for experience, regardless of the results.

NTSE is one of the most prestigious exams in India. The moment you clear this exam, you get recognition at various levels. This also helps in career development and takes you ahead of others.
c. Monetary benefits:
You can support yourself by getting a scholarship of Rs.500 per month. The scholarship is provided up to Ph.D. level for general courses like Science, Social Science and Commerce and up to Post Graduation level for professional courses like Engineering, Management and Law.

a. State Level: For the purpose of screening; only written test is conducted.
b. National Level: For final selection; a written test followed by an interview.

Thus after NCERT brings out the advertisement regarding NTSE along with application form, the whole responsibility shifts to State Level. The State Liaison Officers accept the application forms, conduct the State Level examination and then recommend the list of qualifying students to NCERT.
